My USA Travel Wishlist: 8 Places I Want to Explore

There are so many beautiful places to explore across the United States. Over the years, I’ve slowly built a little travel wishlist of destinations I’d love to see someday. Some of them feel dreamy and scenic. Others are cozy and charming. A few have been on my mind for as long as I can remember. In this post, I’m sharing eight places in the USA that I’d love to visit. These are spots that inspire me. They spark my curiosity. They simply make my heart feel a little lighter whenever I see photos of them.
Hawaii
I visited Maui when I was 16. Yet, Hawaii still feels like a place I want to return to with fresh eyes. I seek a different kind of appreciation. Back then, I was too young to fully understand just how special the islands are. The lush landscapes, the calming ocean breeze, and the sunsets feel like they were painted just for you. Now, as an adult, I want to go back and explore more slowly. I wish to take in the culture with intention. I long to experience the beauty in a way I couldn’t at sixteen.
Revisiting Maui is always exciting. Discovering new islands like Oahu, Kauai, or the Big Island adds to the adventure. Hawaii remains high on my travel wishlist. There’s a grounding and restorative quality in its peaceful atmosphere, warm beaches, and vibrant nature. It’s a place where you can breathe a little deeper. You feel a little more connected to the world around you.
Washington
Washington has been on my travel wishlist for so long. It feels like the perfect blend of cozy, misty, and naturally breathtaking. From evergreen forests and dramatic coastlines to peaceful lakes and mountain views, it’s a place designed for slow mornings. It invites quiet drives and offers soft, scenic moments. I imagine wandering through Seattle’s coffee shops, and exploring bookstores on rainy afternoons. I see myself taking in views of the Puget Sound wrapped in that signature Pacific Northwest fog.
The atmosphere draws me in the most. It is calm, cool, and a little dreamy. It feels like a place where time moves slower. Everything feels more peaceful. Whether it’s hiking trails surrounded by towering trees or watching the sunset over the water, Washington feels like a destination. I could reconnect with nature there. I could enjoy the simplest, sweetest moments.
ORegon
Oregon has this quiet, moody charm that’s been calling to me for years. It has a dramatic coastline, misty forests, and cozy small towns. It feels like the kind of place where every corner holds a little moment of magic. I imagine wandering along Cannon Beach at sunrise. I think about exploring moss-covered trails that look straight out of a fairytale. It’s also fun to imagine enjoying slow afternoons in Portland’s cafés and bookstores.
Oregon’s diversity is what I love most. There’s something new to see at every turn. You can find waterfalls tucked between towering evergreens. Discover peaceful stretches of ocean. Experience scenic drives that feel like stepping into another world. It seems like the perfect destination for anyone who loves nature, cozy vibes, and a little bit of quiet adventure. Oregon is definitely high on my list for a future trip that feels both grounding and inspiring.
Nevada
Nevada is a place full of contrast. It has bright city lights and quiet desert landscapes. There are also many little pockets of beauty in between. Most people think of Las Vegas first. The energy, lights, and shows look fun to experience at least once. However, what really draws me in are the serene, scenic spots just outside the city. I imagine exploring Red Rock Canyon at golden hour, watching the colors shift across the rocks. I also like taking a peaceful drive through the desert. Everything there feels wide open and endlessly calm.
There’s something about Nevada’s mix of vibrant life and stillness that fascinates me. The idea of wandering through quirky roadside stops excites me. Stargazing in some of the darkest night skies is captivating. Simply soaking in the unique atmosphere makes it a place I’d love to experience for myself. It feels like a destination where you can enjoy excitement one moment. The next moment, you can take a quiet breath of desert air. Both experiences are equally memorable in their own way.
Maine
Maine feels like the perfect place for anyone who loves quiet coastal towns. It offers crisp ocean air. The scenery looks straight out of a postcard. I imagine wandering through charming seaside streets. I listen to waves crash against rocky shores, watching lighthouses glow softly at sunset. There’s something so peaceful and grounding about Maine’s atmosphere. Mornings start slowly with warm coffee. Afternoons are spent exploring nature. Evenings are wrapped in cozy sweaters as the sky fades into pastel colors.
What draws me in most is that blend of calmness and rugged beauty. Maine, from Acadia National Park to its tiny harbor villages, offers a getaway. It’s the kind of destination where you can escape the noise. You can breathe a little deeper and enjoy the simple sweetness of coastal life. It’s been on my wishlist for a long time, and I’d love to experience its serenity in person someday.
Alaska
Alaska feels like one of the most magical and majestic places in the entire country. It is quiet and expansive. It is filled with landscapes that hardly seem real. I imagine towering mountains dusted with snow, deep blue glaciers, peaceful forests, and skies that stretch endlessly in every direction. It’s the kind of destination that makes you feel small in the best possible way. It’s like standing inside a postcard, stepping into a dream.
What draws me to Alaska most is the sense of untouched beauty. I picture slow scenic drives and wildlife sightings that feel once-in-a-lifetime. I envision cozy evenings spent bundled up while watching the sky shift into soft colors. The Northern Lights are a bucket-list moment by themselves. You simply have to see them in person to believe. Alaska seems like the perfect place for quiet adventure, reflection, and experiencing nature on a grand, awe-inspiring scale.
North Dakota
North Dakota might not be the first place people think of when planning a trip. That’s exactly what makes it feel so intriguing. It feels peaceful to me. There’s a quiet beauty in its wide-open spaces—endless prairies, rolling hills, and skies that seem to stretch forever. I imagine slow drives through landscapes that glow at golden hour. There is nothing but soft light and a gentle breeze. You only find that comforting sense of stillness in less-traveled places.
What draws me most to North Dakota is the simplicity and calmness of it all. The painted canyons of Theodore Roosevelt National Park create this feeling. You can also find charming small towns and scenic byways. It feels like a destination where you can unwind. You can reconnect with nature and enjoy moments that aren’t rushed or crowded. There’s something really grounding about that. Visiting North Dakota someday feels like an invitation to slow down and appreciate quiet beauty in its purest form.
Vermont
Vermont feels like the perfect escape. It attracts anyone who loves quiet charm, cozy towns, and scenery that shifts beautifully with every season. I imagine wandering through little villages filled with maple syrup shops. Crisp autumn leaves glow in shades of orange and red. Peaceful backroads are lined with old barns and covered bridges. It’s the kind of place that feels warm and comforting. It’s like stepping into a storybook. Everything moves a little slower and sweeter.
What draws me most to Vermont is its peaceful, homey atmosphere. Vermont seems like a destination that offers simple joys and gentle beauty. You can feel that essence whether it’s sipping hot cider on a chilly fall morning or exploring local markets. Taking a scenic drive through the mountains also embodies that essence. It’s been on my wishlist for a long time—and I’d love to experience that cozy, small-town magic in person someday.
