Hi pretties! Special interests are hobbies that neurodivergent people love, but unlike neurotypical people, they get very sucked into their hobbies. Here are some of my special interests that I’ve gathered over the years.
Japan
I have been hyper-fixated on the country Japan for a long time, since I was 10. Japan is such a beautiful country, and I was lucky enough to visit during March earlier in the year. I love the culture, and I love anime as well.
Flowers
I love flowers. Flowers and plants are definitely one of my special interests. I love photographing flowers and plants, and I love learning about them too. My favorite flowers are peonies and roses, and my favorite plants are monstera plants, fruit trees, and snake plants.
The color pink
I am such a sucker for the color pink. By that, I don’t like hot pink, but more muted, neutral pinks like baby pink, millennial pink, and more shades of pink like that. I love the color pink because it allows me to show my girly side without being judged for it.
The color pink is also why I decided to collect things such as pearl bears and rose bears.
Crystals
I recently delved into spirituality and crystals have been one of my special interests for a couple of years. I love the different meanings behind crystals, and I like using them for their properties. For example, citrine is supposed to bring financial success. I love having different crystals to augment those qualities, even though their powers might sound like a load of baloney for some.
Sanrio
One of my special interests is all about Sanrio. Sanrio is the creator of characters such as Hello Kitty, My Melody, Cinnamoroll, and Kuromi. They are based in Japan, so that indirectly ties in with the Japan special interest.
Travel
One of my biggest special interests is travel. I first travelled abroad in 2022, about two months before I got my autism diagnosis, and I haven’t been able to stop since. Traveling is a special interest because I love history. I also love experiencing other cultures and trying different foods.
Video games
I have such a special interest in video games. My favorite games to play include Skyrim, The Sims, and Stardew Valley. Although video games is such a broad term for such a special interest, I prefer simulation games. I love that simulation games let me do whatever I want, including things I would have never dreamed of doing in real life.
Organization
Organization is an interesting special interest. I am autistic, but I also have ADHD. so it’s quite interesting when those two mix. My autism wants everything to be every organized, but my ADHD would prefer everything be out. I try to mediate this by finding various ways to organize my life and my items. By organizing I can better keep track of what I already have. I also can track what I need to buy.
