Hi pretties! I’ve talked about my partner on this blog a couple of times. What you might not know is that we are actually long distance. Here is what it’s like to be in a long distance relationship!
About us

This is my long distance partner, Brandon. We’ve been together for a year and 7 months (minus a month break, lol). I first met him through a few people. They were playing and streaming Geoguessr. It’s a game where you have to guess where you are. A former mutual friend tried to set us up, but failed because we barely knew each other. Fast forward a few months, and we started playing in a Minecraft realm hosted by another mutual friend. That was really when the interest started picking up. He was working on a big project in the realm. I decided to help him. The rest is history, as they say. He is from the tiny state of Rhode Island, which is about almost 300 miles away from where I live.
I don’t mention Brandon very much because I value his privacy, as well as my own. I also want to keep my content creation and personal life separate. You will not really see much of him on any of my channels. I will share moments only when I choose to.
Being in a long distance relationship
Being in a long distance relationship isn’t for the faint of heart. I’ve done it once, and I am doing it again (thankfully, this one doesn’t cross an entire ocean). Being long distance is probably one of the most painful and hardest parts about this relationship, and here’s why.
You don’t get to see them often (if at all)
You will not see your significant other often in a long distance relationship. Sometimes, you may not see them at all. Some people have very strict parents, while others are saving money to see their significant others. It’s a tough business, especially if you are underage or don’t have any monetary income.
Miscommunication
Miscommunication over text can happen, and it happens a lot. That’s why I prefer video calls over purely text. However, miscommunication can also happen when you’re video calling. Miscommunication happens when you’re both stressed, and nothing feels as bad as being misunderstood.
Dealing with overheating phones
This is such a first world problem, I know. Hear me out, though. One very minor but annoying part about being in a long distance relationship is that your phone feels extremely hot. This heat is comparable to cooking eggs. This happens because of the sheer battery drain that video calling causes. There are many video calling apps, such as Discord, Facebook Messenger, FaceTime, and others. Brandon and I chose Facebook Messenger, as it was the best option for us. We have also tried Google Meet and WhatsApp, but those don’t compare to Facebook Messenger.
The positives of being long distance
Despite all the negatives that come with being in a long distance relationship, there are also some positive things about it
You love the person for their personality, not what they look like
I know, this should be pretty standard. I love my partner not because of what he looks like, but because of his personality. I love how kind and understanding he is of my neurodivergent mind. It is rare to find someone who understands how a neurodivergent mind works. I am glad I found this understanding in my partner.
Physical touch is more meaningful
After a while of dating, physical touch becomes the norm. However, in a long distance relationship, physical touch is much more meaningful. Both parties only get to touch each other a couple of times a year. This scarcity makes the physical side of a relationship much more special.
It teaches both parties they can survive the toughest of times
Many long distance relationships fail because of miscommunication, or one of the parties can’t handle the distance. When both parties eventually close the distance, it will teach them that they can survive the toughest of times.
Have you ever been in a long distance relationship before?

I love the story of you and your partner! 🩷
Long-distance relationships are hard. I’ve been in one that was really significant with someone who lived a few states away back in 2014-2018, but it was very turbulent for reasons aside from the distance.
With the right person, anything can work as long as you’re both willing to put in the hard work.

Thank you for reading Kat! I agree, a long disrtance relationship needs a lot of work from both people, but if you’re willing to put in the work, anything is possible.
