5 Hard Truths I Had To Swallow

Hi pretties! 💕
Life has a way of handing us lessons we didn’t ask for. However, those lessons shape us, stretch us, and sometimes help us grow in ways we barely expected. Here are five hard truths I’ve learned. Sometimes, I learned them the hard way. These are the ways I’ve learned to live with them instead of fighting them.

Your Well-Being Matters More Than Metrics

Numbers, likes, growth curves—those are tempting measures, but they don’t reflect your health, your joy, or your authenticity. The hard truth: if you keep chasing metrics without honouring your boundaries, you’ll burn out.
Swallowing this truth involves setting limits. It also means listening to your body and mind. Lastly, it means building a digital life that supports you instead of depleting you.

The “Dream” Looks Different from What You Imagined

We all picture the “perfect version” of our lives. It includes the blog with followers and the travel-feed. We imagine the feeling of effortless ease. But reality? It’s messier. It’s full of behind-the-scenes, of unexpected detours, of days when you’re doing your best just to show up.
Swallowing this truth means letting go of the idea that success is glamorous all the time. It also means recognizing that progress often happens in quiet, unseen moments.

Not Everything Will Go as Planned

If you’re anything like me, you’ve had a list of “should-haves” in mind. These include the collaborations that didn’t happen, the content ideas that fell flat, and the appointments that got cancelled. It stings when things change or don’t align.
Swallowing this truth means embracing resilience. It involves knowing that flexibility is a strength. It also means learning to pivot rather than collapse when the path shifts.

Comparison Steals Joy

Scrolling through feeds, seeing “highlight reels,” and wondering why YOUR story doesn’t look the same can be soul-draining. The truth is: you’re only seeing a fraction of someone’s life.
Swallowing this truth requires curating your feed. It involves reminding yourself of your own story worth. You must choose to celebrate your journey instead of measuring it against someone else’s snapshot.

Consistency Beats Perfection

I used to wait for the “perfect moment” or the “right setup” before posting, creating, filming. That kind of waiting keeps you stuck. The hard truth: doing it well today, imperfectly, is better than waiting to do it perfectly tomorrow.
You need to accept this truth. Show up when you can. Be kind to your process. Remember that momentum often builds from “just starting” rather than “just being ready.”

Final Thoughts

None of these truths are easy, but they are freeing. They release you from chasing an ideal of what things “should” be and invite you into what is. If you lean into them — slowly, gently, with love — you’ll find more space to create, to live, and to feel fulfilled.

Every growth story is messy, beautiful, and unique — just like you.

Let’s Chat!

Which one of these truths resonates most with you right now? Have you had your own “a-ha” moment you’d like to share? I’d love to hear from you below or on Instagram @winniexyong — your voice matters. 💕

Until next time, pretties — stay gentle with yourselves, stay curious, and remember: growth is messy, and that’s okay. ✨

  1. I have to agree with all of these. I really like what you wrote about how people don’t care about what we look like, or sound like. I think we’re so busy worrying about ourselves, that we’re not looking at or judging other people. Strange really. It’s such a vicious cycle!

  2. Hard life lessons can be quite difficult to reconcile with, but once you do, it can be (in an odd way) rather freeing. It get rids of any pretense, especially the one you mentioned here about social media being just a highlight reel. That is so important to learn because it has become so ubiquitous and we can get sucked into the perfection it presents to us. Very thought-provoking post!
