30 life lessons I learned in 30 years

Hi pretties! I recently turned 30 a few weeks ago, and there are so many life lessons I learned during my short 30 years on the planet, and here are some of them!

1. People can be like leaves, branches, or the roots of a tree

I first learned this life lesson from this video, but it’s one of the most profound life lessons I learned. Some people only stay in your life for a season, just like leaves on a tree. Some people are like branches- they hang around for a while, but eventually, the branch will break. The most important people are the ones who are like a tree’s roots. The people who are like roots will stick with you even in the toughest situations. They support you at your peaks. Those are the kinds of people you want to keep in your life.

2. Don’t compare your journey to other people

I fell into the comparison trap, and I realized how detrimental it was. I can’t compare my day 1 to other people’s day 365. We’re all on our unique journeys, and the only person that matters is yourself.

3. Enjoy the present

I used to be so worried about the future that I forgot to enjoy the present. Enjoying the present is a skill I learned in therapy. It has done so many wonders for my anxiety and depression. Living in the present is much better than worrying about the future. You cannot control your future, but you can control how you react to the present.

4. Whatever will be, will be

Otherwise known as “que sera sera”, whatever will be will be. Whatever happens is out of your control. The only thing you can control is the way you react to it.

5. There’s always room for change

Change can be a scary thing. The fear associated with change definitely plays a part as to why people don’t want to change. However, it’s important to change and adapt to life. If nobody changed their ways of life, the world would be different. The world would not be as nice of a place if people didn’t change. You would miss out on opportunities if you didn’t change.

6. Enjoy the small things

I learned how to enjoy the small things. It’s one of the most important life lessons I’ve learned. If you keep focusing on the big picture, you will definitely be miserable. That’s why it’s so important to celebrate even the smallest accomplishments.

7. Follow your dreams within reason

Following your dreams within reason is another life lesson I learned. For a long time, I wanted to be a full time content creator, but I realized my dream isn’t viable without having to work either part time or full time. Content creating can take years before you can get paid, and that’s okay. It’s okay to follow your dreams, but as long as they aren’t making you broke or unhappy.

8. Romanticize your life

I always thought that romanticizing your life would be a ridiculous little thing. However, when I tried it a little bit, I realized that it makes the mundane things more fun. It makes the daily coffee I drink more fun. Exercising becomes more fun. Errands become more tolerable. Romanticizing your life makes the little things that seem like chores much more bearable.

9. Work to live, not live to work

I’ve seen so many people my age prioritize career over their life. That can lead to burnout, which can lead to health declines. Working to live is a healthier way to manage a work life balance rather than living to work. If you live to work, that’s not living at all.

10. Love people, not things, because the opposite never works

This is such a pedantic quote from The Minimalists, but I find that it holds a lot of meaning. I’ve noticed people loving things more than people these days, especially on social media. They prioritize content over meaningful connections. People would rather have more stuff than experiences. I find that valuing the people in my life is much more rewarding than getting a new laptop or a bag I really want. I started prioritizing travel because I love taking trips with my loved ones.

What lessons have you learned throughout your life?
